Ahobilam or Ahobalam or Singavel Kundram is a Major Ccenter of Pilgrimage in South India and One of the 108 Vaishnava DivyaDesams. According to the legend, this is where Lord Narasimha Blessed Prahlada and Killed the demon Hiranyakashipa. It is an important place of worship for Vaishnavas. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam.
Ahobilam is located in the Allagadda Taluka of Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh,India. It is located at a distance of 40 KM from Nandyal, and is conveniently accesibly by bus from Nandyal,Kurnool and Hyderabad. Ahobilam is not connected by Rail.the Closest railway stations are Nandyal (on the Banglore-VisakaPatnam(Vizag) route and Cuddapah (on the Mumbai-Chennai route)

One of the avatars of Sri Mahavishnu amony many is Narasimha Avatar, to punish the bad and to protect the good. It has some special importance. Half in this avatar is man and half is wild animal. It is the beginning for Human Avatar by Sri Mahavishnu. It is believed that other than Sri Rama and Sri Krishna, all the other avatars are published in Andhra Pradesh only. That is why so many names in Andhra begin with the word 'Narasa'. Also there is a history for each prominent place related to Narasimha in Andhra.

We find narasimha in Simhachalam in North Andhra, Mangalagiri in Krishna Delta, Yadagiri Gutta, Dharmapuri in Telangana, Penchalakona in Nellore, Antharvedi in Konaseema, Kadiri in Rayalaseema.. and many more places also. God Narasimha is also found in Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, Tirupati.

At Allagadda in Kurnool District, from Srisailam to Tirumala we have Seshachalam Mountain Range. Between two hills in this Nallamala area, a sacred place called Ahobilam is there. Seshachalam has are treated as the image of God Adiseshu. The details about this piligrim centre can be found Kasi Khanda in Skanda puranam, Brahma Puranam and Nrusimha Puranam. Vishnus treat this place as the Second Tirupati among the 108 Tirupatis. In ancient Tamil literature, this place is called 'Tiru Singavel Kumdram'.

::::::History about Ahobilam::::::
Garudachalam is one of the hills of Seshachalam Range. It is the pillar of the devil Hiranyakasipu's home. Garuthmanthu had done tapas on this hill and became vehicle of lord vishnu. To save prahalada, Narasimha came out from this pillar only. All the goddesses called him as 'Narasimha parandiva mahobalam mahobalm'. Ahobalam means great power. All the goddesses got the water from ganga river to cool Narasimha. This ganga water flowed towards west. Hence this is called Bhavanasi Teertham.

Nava Narasimhas:
The temple in the ground is called lower Ahobilam, and the temple on mountains is called upper Ahobilam. In lower Ahobilam, Prahalada Varada Lakshmi Narasimha is present. It was a very huge ground. It was of star shape. It had vijayanagara style. It is just like Vital Temple in Hampi. Pushakarini is also present outside this temple. Many Kings orders can be found here. Nine types of Narasimha Statues are present in Upper and Lower Ahobilam.

Ahobila Narasimha:
This god is called as Ugra Narasimha. This temple in Cave is called Upper Ahobilam. This god sat in Chakrasanam in this cave after killing Hiranyakasipa in Gaja Teertham waterfall.

Jwala Narasimha:

This temple is present in a small cave in Garudachalam. It is a bit difficult to reach this temple.

Malola Narasimha :

This hill is called Lakshmi kshetram. Here is the god is found along with goddess Lakshmi.

Varaha Narasimha:
When there was great disaster, the earth drowned into water. Then God Varaha Narasimha took it out and kept behind Vedadri. Here Narasimha had Varaha Avatar.

Pavana (Pamuleti) Narasimha:
This is to the south of Garudadri. This piligrim center is also called Pamuleru. Hence the god here is worshipped as Pamuleti Narasimha.

Bhargava Narasimha:
It is believed that Bhargava Rama does tapas even now in this Akshaya Teertham. Impressed at Bhargavarama's Tapas, Narasimha appeared here.

Yogananad Narasimha:

Many yogis have done their tapas here. Hence it got its name. The god taught Yoga to Prahalada here only.

Chatrapati Narasimha :         Here the god faces east side.

Karanja Narasimha:             This god is present at Bahavanasini Teertham.

Celebrations and festivals:

Every month, on the day of Swathi Nakshatram, Abhishekas are done for all the nine Narasimhas. On vaikunta Ekadasi, grand celebrations of Narasimha Jayanti are done. Brahmotsavas are done in Phalgunamasam. The celebrations end on Phalguna Purnima.

Transport and retiring:

Allagadda is 115 KM from Kurnool and 80KM from Kadapa. From here, you can reach Ahobilam by bus. You can even hire autos. AP Tourism's Haritha Resorts, Malola Guest House, Tirumala Tirupathi Devastanam Guest House and many other are available at lower Ahobilam. If you can visit all the nine Narasimha's you can visit the Tulasi Kota at Yoganagnda Centre on which all the images can be found. At Kasinayana Mandiram, you can see the godesses of 60 telugu years.
